Your body will always remember everything that you have ever done to it, whether it’s for the better or the worse. It’s like a living record, capturing every moment, every choice, and every experience. You may not recall the wild nights of your 20s, the times when you pushed your limits, like that one memorable night when excessive alcohol led to a regrettable episode of throwing up in your sleep. You might have forgotten, but your body remembers.

Because of their resiliency, our bodies can bear the effects of our choices. Your body was capable of withstanding those difficult times because it was strong enough at the time. But as we age, our bodies naturally deteriorate. It’s an unavoidable aspect of growing older that affects everyone. But you may fight against this reality by beginning to take care of your body right now.

Think ahead to a moment when your body might require that extra push to get through another challenging circumstance. You are effectively investing in a future where your body will be able to save you by taking charge of your health today. Your body’s health is the most important thing, so you should decide right now to put your well-being first.

The unexpected appearance of COVID-19 made me realize how little I really cared about my health. Since I moved in with my mother in 2020, the pandemic has acquired new meaning. Even while I thought I could get rid of the illness easily, I became aware that my mother could not be as fortunate. Taking care of myself turned into a strategy for keeping her safe. The objective shifted to prevention—total viral avoidance.

I drove passengers every day in 2020 and interacted closely with people while managing the uncertainty brought up by the pandemic. Still, I was able to completely avoid the virus. Neither my mother nor I have ever had Covid-19. Was it the vitamins I took religiously, or was it the fact that my car’s air conditioner ran nonstop? Perhaps a combination of the two, but either way, the outcome was evident: the infection didn’t affect me.

I was tested on a weekly, bimonthly, and monthly basis, and the findings were consistently negative. I was able to avoid the infection in spite of the possibility of being exposed through my regular interactions. It serves as evidence of the significance of both our daily decisions and physical well-being. My mother only received one dose of the vaccination and never chose to get booster doses; I never got the vaccine at all.

It turns out that a complicated web of elements interact to determine health. It’s about making decisions that promote your well-being, keeping your body strong and robust, and occasionally, a little bit of luck. Even though I’m not sure why I’m immune, it’s still obvious how important it is to pay attention to one’s health.
There will be more uncertainties as time goes on. Our bodies may need to withstand unexpected obstacles, new viruses, or other difficulties that present new challenges. Our current investment in our health will pay dividends in those moments.

Thus, let this to serve as a prompt to choose to take care of your body well right now. Your body needs to be taken care of, whether it takes the form of a thoughtful diet, consistent exercise, or even just eating well. It is your means of transportation through life, keeping the memories of all your victories and hardships safe. Taking care of it now will make it stronger and healthier tomorrow.

It is most important to understand that it is what we do to our bodies every day. Not just when we feel like it.
